To what extent is the supplication authentic that was reportedly brought to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, by Gabriel, peace be upon him, and that included promises of forgiveness of sins, no matter how great, and mentions of its virtues from the sayings of the Companions, and does it have any existence in the Prophetic Sunnah?

This supplication is a fabricated lie; it is impermissible to transmit it or act upon it. Whoever treats it lightly exposes themselves to severe warning. The signs of fabrication and falsehood are evident in it due to its exaggeration of virtues. Ibn al-Qayyim said that fabricated hadiths contain exaggerations that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would not utter. Among the indications of fabrication is extreme warning for a minor matter or tremendous promise for a small action. The Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas stated that this supplication is an innovation, has no basis, and no proof. It contains fabricated words and promises, and it is an invitation to hang amulets and to rely on other than Allah. Therefore, its distribution and publication must be prevented, and any copies found must be destroyed.
