Is it permissible to convert an amount from Syrian Pounds to US Dollars when the latter’s value falls, and then convert it back to Syrian Pounds when the Dollar’s value rises, with the aim of profit and increasing the original amount? Is the resulting increase lawful (halal) or unlawful (haram)? If it is unlawful, what should we do with the increase we obtained? And if it is lawful, how do we purify it with zakat, knowing that we intend to repeat the process to increase the amount?

As for dealings, there is no harm in them, nor in benefiting from what is earned from them. As for Zakat, it is obligatory on the amount available on the day the Hawl (one lunar year) is completed, if it reaches the Nisab (the equivalent of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver) and a Hawl has passed over it. Then, a quarter of one-tenth of it, or from other assets, is to be given out.
