Does ridicule occur merely by the feeling that it is ridicule, or by making a gesture to stop thinking or speaking, or does ridicule only occur with intention and purpose?
There is no sin or mockery upon the one afflicted with obsessive doubts (waswasah). The cure for waswasah is to completely disregard it, to divert one's mind from thinking about it, to occupy one's time with beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds, to avoid isolation, and to frequently recite the Quran and engage in dhikr (remembrance of Allah), as Al-Haytami said. Waswasah is from Satan, and whoever surrenders to it, it will increase until it drives its victim to madness. But whoever seeks refuge in Allah and stops indulging it, it will vanish. Believe that waswasah is a satanic whisper, and fight it so that you may be rewarded with thebah of a struggler, for Satan is an enemy.
