Is it permissible for a Muslim woman and her Muslim husband to attend gatherings where alcohol is consumed in the homes of the husband's Christian relatives, and to attend their events in churches such as "baptism, communion, weddings, and funerals," and to visit them on their holidays?

A Muslim must avoid sitting with those who drink alcohol, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not sit at a table where alcoholic beverages are circulated." Their company should be avoided by all possible means, though it is permissible to explain the sacred prohibition of drinking alcohol in their presence and to request that they refrain from drinking out of respect for the hospitality. As for attending events of polytheists in a church, it is forbidden due to its involving false witness, witnessing evil, and congratulating on falsehood.
