Does seeking forgiveness for a sin without remorse erase sins?

Whoever does not regret a sin is not considered a penitent, because remorse is a condition for the validity of repentance. Their seeking of forgiveness, in that case, is merely a form of supplication. Many scholars have denounced seeking forgiveness while persisting in sin, calling it "the repentance of liars," in order to encourage sincere repentance. Repentance erases all misdeeds, whereas seeking forgiveness alone, without repentance, does not necessarily entail forgiveness; rather, it is merely one of its causes.
