Is it permissible to fast while infected with Corona?
The coronavirus illness has no special relation to fasting. A person afflicted with it is like any other sick person:
If fasting causes him apparent hardship, he is permitted to break his fast, based on Allah's saying: ﴿So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then [he must make up] an equal number of other days.﴾ A sick person whom fasting does not harm, such as one with a mild cold or headache, must fast. If fasting causes him hardship but does not harm him, he is permitted to break his fast by scholarly consensus. If he fears perishing due to fasting, breaking the fast becomes obligatory. If fasting increases his illness or prolongs its duration, the correct view is that he must break his fast, and fasting becomes forbidden for him. Harm is recognized by sensation (the patient's own feeling) or by the report of a knowledgeable and trustworthy doctor. There is no connection between breaking the fast and preventing coronavirus, and this has not been scientifically proven.
