The statement "My soul is my property and I am free to do with it as I please" is reprehensible. If the speaker intends to imply that he can do whatever he wishes with his soul, then this is an invalid disposition, for the soul is a trust (amanah), and it is impermissible to destroy it or harm it. Smoking, for instance, is forbidden due to the harm it entails. If, however, the speaker intends mockery and sarcasm, then it is a grave reprehensible act, as it entails contentment with sin and ridiculing the one who offers sincere advice. Thus, the phrase is reprehensible in every case.
