Is it permissible to shorten the prayer when exceeding a distance of 80 km within the country?

It is permissible to shorten prayers during a permissible journey if the distance reaches approximately eighty kilometers. It does not matter if the journey is within the same country; rather, the traveler shortens prayers as soon as he departs from the inhabited area of his village or city.
