"Identifying the unnamed man involves probabilities due to the multiplicity of narrations. Ibn Bashkuwāl mentioned him in (Ghawāmid al-Asmā’ al-Mubhama - The Obscure Ambiguous Names) and asserted that he was Abdullāh ibn Shihāb al-Khawlānī, citing as evidence the narration by Muslim in his :
'Abdullah ibn Shihāb al-Khawlānī narrated: "I was staying with Aisha, and I had a wet dream in my garments, so I immersed them in water. A maidservant of Aisha saw me and informed her. Aisha then sent for me and asked: 'What made you do what you did with your garments?' I said: 'I saw what a sleeper sees in his dream.' She asked: 'Did you see anything on them?' I replied: 'No.' She said: 'Had you seen anything, you would have washed it. Indeed, I used to scratch it dry from the garment of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with my fingernail.'"
It was also said that he was Hammām ibn al-Hārith, and another opinion is al-Aswad ibn Nawfal."
