And what is the ruling on a woman watching the following scenes: 1. An unveiled woman who is covering her ‘awrah sitting next to a non-mahram man? 2. A man shaking hands with a woman, whether on television or in reality? 3. Pictures and videos of a fiancée sitting with her fiancé (with whom the marriage contract has not been concluded) embracing or holding each other’s hands at a party containing music, and is it obligatory to lower the gaze from these pictures?

Films and TV series often include forbidden elements, such as music and the immodest display of women. For this reason, scholars have ruled that watching them is impermissible. It is not permissible for the wife to watch them, even if her husband insists, because there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. TV series are judged by their overall content, not scene by scene. Furthermore, sitting with one's fiancée before the marriage contract, shaking her hand in the presence of music, and the filming of women are forbidden. It is not permissible to watch this filming, even with the sound off, because it implies condoning evil and out of fear of temptation. A group of jurists has deemed it forbidden for a woman to look at a non-mahram man, even without lust. However, the fatwa on this matter permits it out of necessity and prohibits it otherwise, and there is no necessity to watch that ceremony.
