What is the ruling on eating that which is taken from the "hishm"?

The basic principle is that it is not permissible to take compensation for emotional distress. If the person who caused harm brings food as an obligation, this is not permissible and constitutes consuming wealth unjustly. What is incumbent upon him is to apologize and seek his colleague's forgiveness; otherwise, his colleague is permitted to exact retribution from him, though forgiveness is closer to piety. However, if he brings it willingly, to placate his brother, then there is no harm in eating from it.
