Is teaching the deceased obligatory?

Teaching the deceased after burial is not obligatory by consensus. It was not a well-known practice among Muslims during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, or his successors, but it is reported from some companions. Opinions on it have varied between recommending it, deeming it reprehensible, or permissible, with permissibility being the most balanced view.
