What is the ruling on working in photographic studios as a hobby or out of necessity?

Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on photographic imaging of living beings when there is no necessity or need, and the ruling on working in this field is based on its permissibility. What necessity or need calls for is permissible by their agreement. As for what is not needed, avoiding it is safer for one's religion and honor, according to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever avoids doubtful matters has safeguarded his religion and his honor."
