What should someone do who stole money from their employer, and then their employer asked them to swear on the Holy Quran to acquit themselves, knowing that they have repented and informed their wife and parents of this?

Theft is a major sin and transgression. Repentance from it requires remorse and a firm resolve not to return to it, as well as returning the stolen goods to their owner. It is not a condition for repentance to inform people about the theft; rather, what is prescribed is to conceal one's own faults. Shifting the blame to others is a grave error, as it is a lie and causes innocent people distress. What the employer wants, which is to recover stolen goods through a sheikh who recites, is a form of divination and is impermissible. Swearing by Allah falsely (a mendacious oath) is a great sin, and swearing on the Qur'an increases the sin. What is obligatory is to repent from all sins, not to go to the sheikh, to return the stolen goods, and to conceal one's own faults.
