What is the reason for a female student feeling distressed and suffocated when reciting the Quran and performing prayers, despite her desire to earn Allah's pleasure and forgiveness? What is the connection between this and the decline in her academic performance and the fluctuation in her psychological state? What is your advice for her?

The cause of a change in one's psychological state might be a trial from Allah, and its cure lies in believing in divine decree, supplicating frequently, and repenting from sins that might be a cause of the trial. This is because Allah tests His servant so that he may return to Him. Allah Almighty says: "Corruption has appeared on land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so that He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]" (Ar-Rum: 41). One must avoid sins and using the internet for what displeases Allah, and frequently seek forgiveness and perform righteous deeds. The evil eye might also have an impact, and there is no harm in performing ruqyah (Islamic exorcism) and consulting psychiatrists. As for chest tightness during recitation and prayer, its cause might be the qarin (jinn companion) or other jinn. The cure is patience and striving against the self to complete supplications, read a daily portion of the Quran, listen to it, and also recite Ayatul Kursi, the Mu'awwidhat (Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas), and Surah Al-Baqarah every three days, along with associating with righteous people and attending gatherings of knowledge.
