Is the husband obligated to pay for the wife's mobile phone, cosmetic surgery, high-cost nursery, and Hajj and Umrah expenses?
Building a marital life is based on affection and forgiveness. If a wife is disobedient and rebellious, her husband is not obligated to provide for her maintenance unless she is pregnant or breastfeeding. The husband is obligated to provide for the maintenance of his children and the educational expenses related to their upbringing, but the wife does not have the right to enroll a daughter in an expensive kindergarten if less costly nurseries are available. The husband is not obligated to treat his wife medically, or to buy luxuries for her, or to pay for her Hajj, but he should do so out of kindness and good companionship. He is the most deserving of people to do so with his wife, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The best of you is the best to his family, and I am the best of you to my family.”
