Is it permissible to keep guard dogs for a villa inside the city that does not need guarding, and does their presence outside prevent angels from entering the house, and what is the ruling on raising cheetahs?
Acquiring a dog is impermissible except out of necessity, due to the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: “Whoever acquires a dog, except a dog for livestock, hunting, or farming, will have two Qiraats deducted from his reward each day.” The majority view that it is permissible to keep a dog for guarding, by analogy with the three aforementioned uses.
The presence of a dog in the yard of the house (outside the house) does not prevent angels from entering the house, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture,” and “in” (fi) denotes ظرفية (inside the house).
As for raising cheetahs and tigers, it is permissible.
