Is purchasing an expensive car considered extravagance or wastefulness, and can the previous intention of showing off with it be corrected, and what are the ways to prevent hypocrisy and showing off if one comes to possess it?

The limit of extravagance in purchasing a car varies depending on a person's financial situation, whether rich or poor. Therefore, a single standard cannot be set for everyone. The reference point for this is an individual's financial capacity and common custom. Moderation in spending, in general, is the approach of Islam.

As for the intention of showing off with a car, one must divert their intention away from this reprehensible aim. To avoid ostentation (riya') and pride, one must instill mindfulness of Allah Almighty in the heart and purify their intention for Him. The essence of the matter lies in the inner stirrings of the heart, not in external appearance. For this world is fleeting and its displays are transient, and boasting about them is boasting about what is not truly possessed.
