What should a man do who wants to pray, but his clothes are defiled and he has gasoline with him?

The majority of scholars hold that impurity can only be removed by pure water (al-ma' al-tahoor), and therefore, it cannot be removed by gasoline. However, according to the school of Abu Hanifa, which was favored by Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, impurity can be removed by anything pure that effectively removes it. Thus, using gasoline or similar substances would be permissible. If the time for prayer is limited and only an impure garment is available, the preferred view is to pray in it and repeat the prayer when it is possible to purify it or when a pure garment is found.
