What is the ruling on the presence of guitars in Islamic anasheed?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to use the guitar, because it is among the forbidden musical instruments, as evidenced by the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "There will be among my Ummah people who will consider lawful illicit sexual intercourse, silk, alcoholic drinks, and musical instruments," and the saying of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah: "The view of the four Imams is that all musical instruments are forbidden."

As for Islamic anasheed (chants), they are permissible with conditions: that they are free of musical instruments, that one does not overdo them and neglect obligations for their sake, that they are not sung by women if the listeners are men, and that they do not contain any forbidden speech.
