Is there any evidence for reading the first two verses of every Surah that begins with "Ḥā-Mīm" for protection from Hellfire, as some Sufis do after Fajr prayer?
The Surahs that begin with (Ḥā-Mīm) are seven: Ghafir, Fussilat, Ash-Shura, Az-Zukhruf, Ad-Dukhan, Al-Jathiyah, and Al-Ahqaf. And (Ḥā-Mīm) is from the disconnected letters (Al-Ḥuruf Al-Muqaṭṭaʿah) that indicate the miraculous nature of the Quran. There is no authentic that proves special merits for these Surahs. What some people do, reciting the first two verses of each (Ḥā-Mīm) consecutively, is an innovation (bid'ah) that has no basis. The saying that they protect from the Hellfire has no evidence, and the Hadith mentioned in this regard has a weak chain of transmission (da'if ). Even if it were authentic, what is meant is the recitation of the complete Surah, not just two verses from it.
