Is a second marriage without the father's consent forbidden?

A father has a great right over his child, which is to be dutiful to him, treat him with kindness, and obey him in what is good and permissible. The questioner has the right to marry another woman as long as he is able to be just between the two wives. He should try to persuade his father to agree, seeking help from Allah and from those who have influence with his father. If the father insists on refusing without a legitimate reason, then it is permissible to marry without his consent, and then strive to gain his satisfaction, for obedience to parents is not absolute. If the questioner perseveres with his current wife and refrains from marrying another, out of dutifulness to his father, he will be rewarded for that.
