What is the ruling on women visiting the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him)?

Visiting graves is recommended for men to remind them of the Afterlife and to supplicate for the deceased. As for women visiting graves, scholars have differed on this matter. Some have prohibited it based on hadiths that curse "frequently visiting women of graves," while others have permitted it, explaining that the initial prohibition was abrogated and that the word "frequently visiting" (زوارات) indicates excessive visitation, not visiting in general. The majority view it as disliked for women due to the potential for wailing and lamentation that might accompany it. An exception to this dislike, according to the majority, is visiting the grave of the Prophet, peace be upon him. However, some scholars in Saudi Arabia prohibit even that for his grave, peace be upon him. If the authorities of the Prophet's Mosque allow women to visit his grave, then there is no harm, as the potential risks are absent and there is a breadth of scholarly disagreement on the matter.
