Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) grant safety to the Samaritan Jews in Palestine, and do they possess a prophetic document proving that?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Samaritans are an ancient Jewish sect in the Levant. They reject the sanctity of Jerusalem, and their Torah differs from that of other Jews. They do not believe in prophecies after Moses and Joshua, nor in the resurrection.

Muslims did not reach their region until after the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Their claim of possessing a letter from the Prophet, peace be upon him, exempting them from the jizya (tribute) is an old falsehood that has been refuted repeatedly, as occurred with al-Khatib al-Baghdadi and Ibn Taymiyyah, who exposed its falsity and proved it to be forged.

The Samaritans, like other People of the Book, if they live under Islamic rule, are treated the same as Jews and Christians, in that the jizya is accepted from them in exchange for security and freedom to practice their rituals.
