What is transformation (maskh)? Does it occur to Muslims? Is the repentance of one who has been transformed accepted? And what is the wisdom behind it?

Transfiguration (maskh) is the transformation of a human body into a fouler form that is not of its own kind, such as an animal or an inanimate object. Texts have been narrated indicating its possibility in this Ummah. Among these is what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned regarding certain people who would permit illicit sexual intercourse, silk, intoxicants, and musical instruments. Allah would then cause them to spend the night in a state of punishment, remove knowledge, and transform others into apes and swine until the Day of Resurrection. He also mentioned the occurrence of earthquakes, transfiguration, and being pelted from the sky when singing girls, musical instruments, and the drinking of intoxicants become widespread. It was also narrated that whoever raises his head before the Imam, Allah may transform his head into the head of a donkey. The wisdom behind transfiguration is to punish disobedient people for their sins, and there is no mention of repentance for those who have been transfigured.
