What is the evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah that animals have souls?

Among the proofs from the Quran that animals have souls are the story of the cow (Baqarah), the donkey of Uzayr, and the story of Ibrahim with the birds. From the Sunnah, there is the hadith: "Do not take anything that has a soul as a target," which is a prohibition against torturing animals, as some privileged people do by shooting at them.
