The Holy Qur’an mentions numerous types of animals, including livestock (camels, cattle, sheep), in addition to beasts of burden, domestic and wild animals, birds, and insects. The Qur’anic verses contained scientific miracles in describing these creatures and their benefits, such as His Almighty's saying about livestock: "We give you to drink from what is in their bellies, from between excretion and blood, pure milk, pleasant to drink for those who drink" [Qur’an 16:66], and His saying about camels: "Do they not look at the camels—how they are created?" [Qur’an 88:17], and about birds: "Do they not see the birds, held in the mid-air? None holds them up but Allah" [Qur’an 16:79]. Miraculous allusions were also mentioned regarding bees, dogs, spiders, butterflies, flies, and ants. Al-Suyuti stated that the Qur’an named ten genera of birds, such as quail (Salwa), mosquitoes, flies, bees, spiders, locusts, hoopoes, ravens, Ababil, and ants.
