What Ibn al-Jawzi meant by his statement is that the Qur’an is included in the “preserved Dhikr (definition)” (remembrance), and this does not negate the verse’s indication of the preservation of the Sunnah (definition), because Dhikr is the revelation that encompasses both the Book and the Sunnah. The preservation of the Qur’an necessitates the preservation of the Sunnah, as it explains and clarifies it.
