What is the ruling on eating an animal that has been struck (to death) if it is reached while still alive and slaughtered?

Eating of an animal that has been gored to death (an-natihah), or any other animal that can benefit from ritual slaughter, is permissible if it is ritually slaughtered while still having a spark of life, due to the Almighty's saying: "Except that which you [yourselves] slaughter." This exception refers to animals strangled to death (al-munkhaniqah), beaten to death (al-mawqudhah), fallen to death (al-mutaraddiyah), or gored to death (an-natihah). So, whatever of these is caught while still moving and is ritually slaughtered in a lawful manner, it may be eaten. Imam Malik said in al-Muwatta': "If he slaughters it while its life is still flowing and its eyes are blinking, then let him eat it."
