How can one overcome the self-whispers that discourage him from supplication and repentance, under the pretext of committing sins and having many transgressions?

Having a bad opinion of oneself is desirable so that a person does not become complacent and attribute virtue to themselves, for the believer knows that blessings come from Allah, and that they have shortcomings and deficiencies. A good opinion of oneself prevents the discovery and rectification of faults.

However, one should not exaggerate in having a bad opinion of oneself to the point of despairing of its righteousness or being diverted from obedience, for the intention is to reform the self. If a servant has a bad opinion of themselves due to their sins, they must have a good opinion of their Lord and believe that He is worthy of all goodness, and that He is capable of bringing about what is in their best interest despite their shortcomings.

The servant should seek Allah's help against their own self and ask Him for assistance in reforming it, for Allah is the Purifier and the Cleanser. If the self whispers that one is unworthy of being answered, let the servant remember the vastness of Allah's bounty and mercy, and that Allah is capable of purifying the heart and safeguarding against trials.
