The answer

If a marriage fulfills its conditions and pillars, especially the guardian (wali) and witnesses, it is valid, and the wife belongs to this man. He, not her parents, possesses the right to divorce her, and he is not obligated to divorce her due to their wishes. This marriage is a solemn covenant (mithaq ghaleez) that should not be trifled with, especially if the husband's actions were a result of psychological pressures and he has admitted his mistake. We advise speaking with the parents, or having respected individuals and people of virtue speak with them. If they insist on their opinion, the husband may refer the matter to the court. The wife is not permitted to outwardly agree with her parents on what they desire; rather, she should be a support for her husband. A Muslim is not permitted to reside in non-Muslim lands except out of necessity, and a woman is not permitted to have a relationship with a foreign man.
