Am I obligated to offer expiation (kaffarah) for an oath if I broke a pledge made between me and Allah, knowing that I uttered it privately in the form of "I pledge to You, my Lord, that I will not do such and such," and at the time, I was unaware of the necessity of expiation? And is it permissible to delay the expiation, or must it be carried out immediately?

We have previously discussed the ruling on one who makes a covenant with Allah regarding something, whether it is considered an oath or not, and the ruling on delaying expiation. The covenant with Allah becomes an oath under the conditions mentioned in previous fatwas, if the servant articulates it with his tongue, whether secretly or openly.
