The question

Does a husband's pronouncement of divorce to his wife, saying "Taliq, taliq, taliq" (You are divorced, you are divorced, you are divorced), take effect in a state of extreme anger and loss of self-control, knowing that he loves her dearly and did not intend to divorce her?

The answer

Anger does not prevent the occurrence of divorce unless it overwhelms the person's mind and deprives them of awareness. If you utter the divorce without awareness, your divorce is not effective. However, if you are aware of what you are saying, then your divorce is effective. If you have been in seclusion with your wife in a valid seclusion, then the majority of scholars consider this seclusion to be equivalent to consummation. In this case, you may take her back before her waiting period (iddah) expires, provided you did not intend to repeat the divorce but merely repeated the لفظ (utterance) for emphasis. One must strive to control oneself to avoid intense anger, for it is the root of evil, as stated in the Prophet's (peace be upon him) advice: "Do not get angry."
