Is it permissible for me to pay off my husband's debt from my own money without his knowledge?

A woman is permitted to pay off a merchant's debt on behalf of her husband without his knowledge, and by doing so, her husband's debt is cleared. This is because whoever pays off another's debt without their permission, that person's debt is cleared. It is advised that the woman be wise in her actions to avoid her husband's anger.
