A will is of two types: obligatory, which involves clarifying the rights and obligations a person has, such as debts and trusts, for the preservation of wealth and the clearing of one's conscience. And recommended, which is donating a third or less of one's wealth, or bequeathing it for charitable acts. It is recommended to hasten the will, write it during good health, and have it witnessed. It should include whatever is needed. It is also permissible for a Muslim to instruct their family regarding matters related to their funeral, such as who should wash them and pray over them, and to advise them to abandon innovations (bid'ah) and newly invented matters. There is no specific format for a will; rather, a Muslim should make provisions according to their circumstances, their obligations, and their rights.
