The prescribed sutrah (barrier) for the Imam and for one praying alone is what the worshiper places in front of him, such as a wall, a pillar, or a chair, to prevent anyone from passing between him and his sutrah during his prayer. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When one of you stands to pray, then a sutrah suffices him if there is in front of him something similar to the back of a saddle." It is prescribed for the Imam and others, and it is emphasized for the Imam because the prayer of the congregants follows his prayer.
