What is the ruling on repeating the prostration of forgetfulness for one whose mind wanders excessively in prayer, even during the prostration of forgetfulness, or who forgets it altogether?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a worshipper experiences frequent forgetfulness (sahu) that becomes akin to obsessive thoughts (waswas), they should not pay attention to it, nor is prostration of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahu) required of them, because this leads to a kind of struggle. If they forget during the prostration of forgetfulness itself, another prostration of forgetfulness is not required. As for absentmindedness and distraction during prayer, if the sister experiences this most of the time, there is no harm in taking her to a trusted psychiatrist.
