Does dispensing with Allah for the blink of an eye constitute apostasy?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

All people are poor before Allah; they cannot do without Him for the blink of an eye. For a servant to consider himself independent of Him leads to his ruin and transgression, as Allah Almighty says: "O mankind, you are those in need of Allah, while Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy." For a servant to see himself as rich causes his transgression, and to dispense with Allah by abandoning His obedience and servitude leads to his misery. Richness is an intrinsic attribute of the Lord, and poverty is an intrinsic attribute of the servant. So, whoever claims to be independent of Allah as Creator and Provider is among the most disbelieving of people. And whoever claims that he has no need for worshipping Allah and drawing close to Him is outside of Islam. It is important to be aware of the devil's whispers suggesting that you have become independent of Allah, for this is an illusion inconceivable to originate from a Muslim.
