What are a wife's rights after she files for divorce, and what are her financial rights, given her assertion of psychological harm, and her family's rejection of the proposed expenses for the son, and their threat to deprive the father of seeing his son because of his inability to pay the full expenses, knowing that the wife used to refuse to take care of the home, curse the husband and his family, reject him as a husband, and neglect her son?

It is permissible for the husband to refuse to divorce his wife who seeks divorce or khulʿ (divorce at the wife's instance, usually for compensation) without harm, until she forfeits some of her mahr (dowry). It is also permissible for him to stipulate that she cover the child's expenses for a specified period. If he divorces her without stipulating the forfeiture of her rights, then she is entitled to all the rights of a divorced woman, and he is responsible for the child's maintenance in a reasonable manner. The husband has the right to see and visit his child after separation, and if a dispute arises regarding the arrangement of visitation, the judiciary shall decide it. The wife is advised not to seek divorce, but rather to live with her husband in a goodly manner, and not to obey her family in demanding divorce.
