Is Jesus, son of Mary, the last of the Companions to die, according to Imam Al-Dhahabi?
Scholars differed regarding whether Jesus, peace be upon him, was a Companion (Sahabi). Al-Dhahabi and Al-Subki held that he was a Companion, because he saw the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, on the night of the Isra' (Night Journey), and he will descend at the End of Time and rule by Islamic Law. Others, however, denied this. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen opined that delving into this matter is an unnecessary and pretentious burden, for Jesus, peace be upon him, is one of the Messengers of Strong Will (Ulul Azm min ar-Rusul), and this is a rank higher and better than the rank of Companionship.
