How does the soul remain in the body of a sleeping person, and he feels and breathes despite its departure from him?

Sleep is a minor death, in which life does not cease entirely. The souls of the living are taken when they sleep, and souls recognize each other in sleep. Then, Allah withholds the souls for which He has decreed death and sends back the others. The state of sleep is a cessation of bodily perception. Both sleep and death share the characteristic of the soul's attachment to the body being severed.
