The answer

Firstly: It is not permissible to work in recording usury, calculating it, or writing its transactions, because it is cooperation in sin and aggression. The one who consumes usury, its giver, its scribe, and its two witnesses have been cursed.

Secondly: If someone acquired wealth through unlawful means and then repented, if he spent it, there is nothing upon him. But if it is still in his possession, he must dispose of it by spending it on charitable causes. If he is in need, he may take from it what suffices his need and give the rest in charity.

Thirdly: It is permissible for a penitent person in need to take from unlawful wealth what suffices his need and invest a portion of it as capital in trade or industry.

Fourthly: If work involves a mixture of lawful and unlawful elements, the proportion of the unlawful must be estimated, and an equivalent amount of money disposed of. If estimation is difficult, then half of it should be given in charity.
