If the woman's guardian is traveling for a temporary absence, one waits until he returns or contacts him to authorize someone else to perform the marriage contract. If the absence is prolonged, making it impossible to contact him, and the woman is harmed by the delay, then the next closest guardian or the judge may marry her. It is not a condition for the authorization to be witnessed, but it is only established with two witnesses. It is not a condition for the woman's permission to be heard or witnessed for the marriage to be valid. However, it is preferable for the officiant to ascertain the woman's permission and the validity of the authorization.
