Is it permissible to abort a fetus that is twenty-five days old due to the mother's fear for her health and the severe pain she is experiencing?

Scholars unanimously agree on the prohibition of abortion once the fetus reaches 120 days of gestation, because it is considered killing a soul after the ensoulment, unless continuing the pregnancy poses a definite danger to the mother's life and there is no other way to save her life. As for before ensoulment (before 120 days), abortion is prohibited except for a legitimate interest or to avert an anticipated harm.

The resolution of the Council of Senior Scholars No. (30233) stipulates: 1. It is not permissible to abort a pregnancy at its various stages except for a legitimate justification and within very narrow limits. 2. If the pregnancy is in its first stage (forty days) and there is a legitimate interest in aborting it or averting an anticipated harm, then abortion is permissible. However, aborting it during this period due to fear of hardship or being content with the current number of children is not permissible.

Accordingly, abortion is permissible if the pregnancy has not reached 40 days, to avert a severe harm afflicting the mother.
