The mother's abortion of the pregnancy is impermissible unless reliable doctors attest to the danger of the fetus remaining to her life. All who participated in the abortion are sinful. Whoever directly performed the abortion is liable for the fetus's blood money (diyah) if it occurred after forty days, estimated as a ghura (a slave or slave girl) whose value is one-tenth of the mother's blood money. The diyah is paid to the fetus's heirs, and whoever directly performed the abortion inherits nothing from it. If the abortion occurred before forty days, there is no diyah.
