There are weak hadiths regarding the two-rak'ah prayer before traveling, such as the of Mut'im bin al-Miqdam, the hadith of Anas, and the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, which Al-Albani graded as (good), but the more probable opinion is that it is not authentic due to defects in its chain of transmission.
Despite the weakness of these hadiths, many scholars have considered this prayer commendable, perhaps due to the abundance of hadiths reported concerning it and the practice of some Companions. The jurists of the four madhhabs have explicitly stated its commendability.
