Who was Omar Khayyam, and what was his creed?

Omar Khayyam is Abu al-Fath, Omar bin Ibrahim al-Khayyami al-Naysaburi. He was born and died in Nishapur. He was a scholar in mathematics, astronomy, language, jurisprudence, and history, and was appointed director of the Baghdad Observatory. He is famous for his poetry, "The Rubaiyat," which contains infidelity, libertinism, and heresy. Examples include verses about wine, denial of resurrection, libertinism, and mockery of divine law. Although some researchers believe that he repented and performed Hajj, and others doubt the attribution of The Rubaiyat to him, its content indicates infidelity, dissolution, and a disavowal of repentance, and does not demonstrate his belief in Allah and the Last Day.
