The answer

Depositing money in a "savings account" is prohibited for two reasons: First, it is a loan with interest, which is usury (riba), and scholars have unanimously agreed on its prohibition. Second, the post office places depositors' money in riba-based banks and distributes a portion of their profits to them, which constitutes another usurious contract. The former Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Gad al-Haq, issued a prohibiting bank interest, savings fund interest, and investment certificates, considering them riba. Working in data entry for deposits and withdrawals in a savings account is considered writing down prohibited usury, so one must repent from it and abandon it. For whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better.
