Is it forbidden to go and attend the Sydney Royal Easter Show, knowing that it is not related to Easter, but rather is a show of tricks, fruits, and animals?

It is not permissible for a Muslim to participate in the festivals and innovative celebrations of the disbelievers, such as Easter and Christmas. This is because it constitutes aiding in evil and imitating them. Allah has forbidden cooperation in sin and aggression, and it is narrated in the Hadith, "Whoever imitates a people is one of them."

The scholars are unanimous on the impermissibility of attending the festivals of the polytheists. It is reported that Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Do not enter upon the polytheists in their churches on the day of their festival, for wrath descends upon them," and his saying: "Avoid the enemies of Allah during their festivals."

The Permanent Committee issued a fatwa stating the impermissibility of Muslims holding or attending celebrations held in churches or participating in them with Christians; this is because it constitutes aiding in sin and aggression.

In summary, it is not permissible to celebrate the festivals of the disbelievers or to participate with their adherents. A Muslim must spend this day like any other day, without singling it out with any manifestations of joy that the celebrants perform, so as to be free from the sin of approval and participation.
