What is the ruling on stealing something then returning it to its place, and is it permissible to swear upon the Holy Quran that one did not steal anything?

Firstly: Theft is forbidden, and the perpetrator must repent and return what was stolen. Secondly: Swearing falsely on the Mushaf that one did not steal is impermissible. Thirdly: It is permissible to use tawriyah (ambiguity/double meaning) in an oath if the swearer is not an oppressor and fears being wronged. For example, one might say "I did not steal," intending "now," or "I did not steal from so-and-so," meaning another person.
